New restaurant opens in Meridian. If someone tells you it isn’t a chain, will you bite?

by Michael Deeds When a new restaurant opens in Meridian, odds are that it will be a national chain. That’s not Boise food snob talk. That’s just how West Ada County rolls. So whenever there’s an exception to the corporate dining rule in Idaho’s second-largest city, it’s worth noting. Eight Thirty Common  officially unfurled the red carpet. After a soft opening last week, the new gastropub at 830 N. Main St. has started serving lunch and dinner in the former  Flatbread Neapolitan Pizzeria  space. Meridian Fire Department Reminds Residents of Importance of Fireworks Safety

MERIDIAN – Meridian Fire Officials are asking residents to use extreme caution when setting off legal fireworks this Fourth of July. Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer with the Meridian Fire Department says when purchasing fireworks, it’s important to keep in mind that some stands outside of Meridian may sell fireworks that are illegal. Chief Niemeyer recommends that families consider attending local events, rather than setting off their own fireworks. “Here in Meridian we have a festival and fireworks display that is perfect for families who want to see a great fireworks show. It is a fun and safe way to celebrate Independence Day” said Chief Niemeyer. The Meridian Independence Day Celebration event is at Storey Park on Thursday, July 4 from 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. The celebration will end with a spectacular professional fireworks show shortly after dusk.   Click here  for more information on activities planned for that day. If you do plan to use fireworks at your home...

It's incredible to me how passionate Meridian residents -- and others who care about our city's future -- are in this campaign. Many are business or civic leaders. Others are dads and moms, college students and retirees. But they all understand that we must continue the work that Mayor Tammy and I have been doing together to ensure Meridian remains a safe community built around families. I had several conversations last week focused on the fact that Meridian is the most critical city in the Treasure Valley because of our location. All major roads cross Meridian. To the west is Canyon Count...
